My Saturdays

We asked three students to talk about a normal Saturday.

Robert

I usually get up at about 9.00 on Saturday. My mother cooks something for me, like boiled eggs or bacon.

I try to do my school work for Monday on Saturday morning, but if one of my friends is doing something interesting, I may go and see him.

On Saturday afternoon, I make some sandwiches for lunch then I leave home. I’m in our football team, so I need to get to the school playing field by 2.00 and it’s quite a long way from my house.

I get home at about 4 or 5 and have a snack. Then we sometimes go round to my grandparents’ house – they live quite close – and we have dinner there.

Frank

I have a paper round to get pocket money, and the newspapers come out on Saturday as well as every weekday, so I can’t stay in bed later. Luckily, I don’t deliver the Sunday papers!

So I get up at 7.00, have a piece of toast and a glass of milk and I get on my bike at about 7.30.

After my job, I’m quite tired – there are a lot of hills on my paper round, so I lie on the sofa and watch television if there’s a baseball game on, but I read instead if they show a football game.

In the evening, we usually have a family meal, either at home or we go to a fast food place.

William

My parents have a shop which is open on Saturday, and I work there in the mornings to earn some money. The shop opens at 7.00, but my parents let me stay in bed a bit longer at the weekend, so I go down to help at about 9.00 after having some cereal and orange juice. I work in the shop all morning, then we shut the shop for an hourand go upstairs to have lunch.

If it’s fine, I go to the park with my friends in the afternoon. We play football or just talk. If it’s raining or cold, I go to one of my friends’ houses to play computer games. The shop shuts at 7.00 and we have a family meal in the kitchen.
